I spent the 24th of July (which is a holiday here in Utah-and better yet a holiday I actually get off!) swimming, eating, and up to Liberty Park to watch the fireworks. It was somewhat of a disaster. We rode tracks and seriously mis-judged the walk from the trax station to the park, which was intensified because I was with three kids (ages 6, 4, and 2) and my grandmother who has bad knees and a hard time walking far. The fireworks were pathetic. They didn't even compare to the Beaver 4th of July fireworks. When Beaver outdoes Salt Lake we have a problem! The worst part part was a 15 minute period where I was in charge of Micaela (2) and Ryan (4). I took them over to the playground. Good thinking right? It did seem like a good idea, until we walked to the playground and there was literally about 100 kids running in every direction. They immediately ran in opposite directions and, in a vain attempt to locate one, I lost sight of the other. The scariest five minutes of my life occurred when I couldn't see either of them, and running through my head is the thought that this was the park where that poor little girl went missing last year. I finally located Micaela, grabbed her, and set of to find Ryan, who was much more difficult to find. After finding him I had the joy of holding the hand of the little boy who didn't want to hold hands and carrying the little girl who didn't want to be carried. My frustration makes perfect sense. There was two of them and one of me. I was outnumbered! In my struggle to care for these two kids I was hit with the realization that some people have even more than two kids! Some have 3 or 4, and some Utah families have as many as 8 or 9! I think I prefer my sanity for now.

It 's official. My camera is broken. Actually, my camera dock, which charges the battery and uploads the pictures, is broken. So no camera, no pictures. Which is so very unfortunate because we spent the last few days in southern Utah, and had some very photographic moments. So I have borrowed a few pictures from websites to help illustrate our trip.
It was incredibly hot, over 100 degrees every day. My grandma says she has air conditioning, but I'm extremely doubtful, as I was constantly drenched in sweat the entire weekend. We did do some outdoorsy things and took a trip up to the beautiful mountains.
Caleb and grandpa went fishing,
while Micaela and grandma went exploring and walking,
while I sat on a lawn chair and drank diet coke, ate butter mints, and re-read the Harry Potter books, in anxious anticipation of the release of the FINAL HARRY POTTER BOOK!!!
I'm considering taking the day off of work to read the book.
Other than that we did some fun things. On the 4th we watched fireworks, which Micaela surprisingly enjoyed. We also went to their Butch Cassidy festival, where the cotton candy vendor gave Micaela a free bag of cotton candy because she was just staring at all that candy, and I'm sure he pitied the poor dear whose mean old mother wouldn't buy her any! Caleb and I also went on an evening four wheeler excursion. Well Caleb did all the excursion, I just held on. There are two reasons I do not drive my own four wheeler: 1) If I ride behind Caleb I am shielded from all the dirt and bugs flying towards us and 2) last time I was on a snowmobile I flew off the edge of the cliff, while my husband continued to drive off, completely unaware that I was no longer with him!
I was also able to take a day trip down to Kanab, where my good friend Sarah now lives. Kanab is a little town on the Utah/Arizona border that looks very much like the Grand Canyons. Not that I've ever actually seen the Grand Canyons, but Kanab looks like what I imagine the Grand Canyons to look like.
Sarah showed me around the town and even took me to the model homes of the new housing development. We also went to the Paiute Indian tribe, and saw their homes and buildings, which was most definitely a cultural experience. Overall the extra two hour drive was worth it.
I'll be ordering our camera dock asap and hopefully start having more pictures of my own to post!
