This last week has flown by so fast I can hardly keep up. For those of you who don't know, I am not a homebody. I prefer to be busy and on-the-go. So although it's been little more than a week since Scarlett was born, I have been out quite a lot. I've gone to visit friends and family members and I even went to work for an evening.
I am particularly excited about Micaela starting preschool. This has been quite the anxiety provoking situation for me, as I didn't start looking for a preschool until July, which apparently is crazy because shouldn't I have known that preschools start enrolling for fall during December of the previous year? Also, shouldn't I have known that preschool is expensive? Fortunately I found a preschool that I felt good about that put her on a waiting list and was just expensive, as opposed to expensive. More good news came when she actually got off the waiting list and made it in a class before school started. Even more good news came when I realized that we could go back to school shopping, and to top it off we got to go back to school shopping with grandma and grandpa.

Needless to say she absolutely loved her first day and constantly tells me that she is going back. Almost to reassure herself. Like "I'm going back to preschool." With a long pause as if she's challenging me to tell her otherwise.

I've had a lot of questions from people about Micaela's adjustment to the new baby. So far, it has been a lot better than I expected. She loves the baby, but she is gentle and not overly suffocating. She hates it when the baby cries. Whenever she cries, Micaela yells from wherever she's at "I'm coming baby Scarlett!" The other day she asked why the baby was crying, and I told her "I think she just wants her mama." To which she replied "no, I think she just wants her Micaela."
Although she loves the baby, we have noticed that the first few days were a little difficult for her. She started fake crying a lot more and requested to be held by both of us, something she normally doesn't want anymore. This has faded over the days, and we're starting to see more of our "big girl" Micaela back.

We're going out of town for the next week and I wanted to post some updated pictures of Scarlett before we left. I can't believe how much she has grown in just a week. And yes, I do dress her up and make her wear ridiculous bows in her hair. Someday, most likely when she is going through a rebellious phase and wearing all black, I will fondly remember the days when I could make her wear whatever girly outfits I wanted.

Aren't these cheeks just adorable?

I find myself at a loss for words to describe one of the happiest days of my life. On Monday August 11th, our second little princess was born. It began about 1:30am, when I woke up with terrible contractions. After the first two contractions I told Caleb I was in labor. Now I have said that phrase quite a few times over the past few weeks, mostly joking, but I knew without a doubt that this was for real. My contractions were about 15 to 20 minutes apart, so I told Caleb to go to sleep and I would wake him up in the morning and I camped out in the living room with the Twilight series until 7am. I had a doctors appointment scheduled that morning, and I called right when the office opened, explained my situation and was told to go to the hospital. It was then that it really hit me and I began to clean. Yes I was convinced I needed to clean the house before we could go to the hospital, even though I have been cleaning the house for the last month!

When we got to the hospital I was sure they were going to tell us to come back when my contractions were closer together, but after examining me and noting I was almost dilated to a 6 they said I could stay. Fortunately I have an amazing family who dropped everything to make it to the hospital. My parents took the first flight out, my aunt left work, and my sister and brother-in-law drove down from Idaho. Oh and Caleb took the night off of work as well:)Thanks guys!

Surprisingly, my labor was kind of fun. We watched the Olympics and pre-season football (hoping that this baby wouldn't becomes a Packers fan by osmosis) and the contractions weren't as bad as I remembered. I had an amazingly nice nurse who said she would stay after her shift if necessary to see my baby being born.

By the way my father was the photographer, so there were many odd pictures of things like the TV, or my doctor's watch. This is me and my aunt Kristi, who was my unofficial labor coach/assigned to make sure Caleb didn't pass out.

After 8 more hours of labor I was ready to go. My doctor actually made it this time, and literally was talking about football with my dad and Caleb as I was preparing to push. After three sets of pushes I heard the magical words "she has so much hair!" This was exciting because Micaela had a ton of hair and we were hoping that this baby would share that trait.
They immediately put her on my stomach and our newest addition was introduced to Caleb and I for the first time. She was so beautiful.

We named her Scarlett Adele DeCremer. It took us a while to decide on a middle name, but we chose to name her after my grandmother on the suggestion of my parents. We felt it was a good fit, as both names are somewhat old fashioned.

Scarlett weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long. She has black hair and blue eyes...although I'm not entirely convinced they wont eventually turn brown like mine:)

One of the best feelings in the world is holding a newborn for the first time.

Caleb gave her her first bath....

....and shortly thereafter the camera died. And of course the gift shop was out of cameras. We took the rest of the pictures on our cell phones, but I wanted to share at least most of her first day of life.
Scarlett has been an amazing addition to our family. I am so grateful to be chosen to be the mother of this precious little girl. Thanks to all our wonderful family members and friends who helped out and offered their love and support. We are both home now and doing really well. I promise to post more pictures later, as she has honestly gets cuter as the days pass!

The mood at my house is anxious. Ok so my mood is anxious. However, Micaela has been making me laugh a lot lately. I love it when I receive a call from Caleb saying "you will never believe what Micaela just said..." Here are a few of my favorites from the past week.

-Keep in mind Micaela is very into fantasy. Her and Caleb were at a gas station and she saw a man who Caleb guessed was over 400 pounds. Not only did she stare, but she loudly said "dada what is he?" As if someone that large couldn't be of the human race.

-As a young child was tantruming at the grocery store Micaela, once again, loudly proclaimed "mama he's not making good choices. Does he need a time out?" So helpful.

-She snuck into bed with me while Caleb was in the shower one night. When he came out and saw her, he told her she needed to go back to her own bed. She replied "no thank you." You know, because she obviously felt that he was offering a suggestion.

-Along the same lines, I told her we needed to have dinner and she said "no thank you. Just cookies."

-She also tells on us to my mother-in-law. She was playing with her toys and her books when she was supposed to be napping, so we took them away and made her lie down. Later that day she talked to my MIL on the phone and told her "mama took away all my toys and dada took away all my books and I cry."

-This is becoming a theme, seeking sympathy from others for the horrible things she endures from her parents. Just now she asked if she could have some bread. Of course she had already gotten a piece of bread out of the bag and was carrying it around the house. I took it away from her, telling her I would make her some food in a minute. She ran into her room and "cried." Which is to say she faked it. When Caleb got home she ran to him saying that I took away her bread "and made me cry in my hands in my room." Complete with a re-enactment of her crying in her hands. Cinderella style.

-I took her to work with me the other day and made her introduce herself to one of my co-workers. She said her name, then she looked at me, waited a minute, and said "and this is mama." Obviously a little embarrassed for me that I couldn't introduce myself.

PS. No baby yet...

I find myself very bored and anxious as I'm waiting for this new addition to our family. Every time someone asks me how much longer, I tell them, and they always respond "oh that's so close" or "it could be any day now." Trust me I know. Everyday I wake up and think...am I going to have my baby today? While I'm sitting around "patiently" waiting I've been thinking about a lot of random things.

-Has anyone seen the show Ice Road Truckers? Me neither. I heard the title and realized I now know what the worst job in the world would be. Driving a truck on ice sounds absolutely ludicrous. No thanks.

-Why do doctors even examine women to tell if they are dilated? When you can be dilated at a one and have your baby that day or dilated at a 4 for a few weeks? By the way, does it seem odd to anyone else that there really is no way to tell when you are going to go into labor?

-I think Micaela's princess theme has gone to far. She now has been calling Caleb "sir" and me "your majesty." Cute at first, but somewhat embarrassing in public. Although not as embarrassing as when she pulled up her dress to adjust her princess panties.

-I recently bought a whole bag of chewy chocolate chip cookies for myself to celebrate the last two weeks that I can eat whatever I want. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a diet where you can eat a whole bag of chewy chocolate chip cookies and lose weight?

-Is there any way I can convince my doctor to not weigh me tomorrow? If so, I will have a few more cookies.

-How are we possibly going to have two children? We should have raised Micaela and then, if we did a decent job, had another one. Or by that time we would only be 40, obviously still young enough to take a few years off and travel around the world. That's why we have to have the 2nd one now. Because there is no way we would give up our world travels to have another child. Just kidding. Kind of.
