I am a daydreamer. I just am, always have been. Caleb is fortunate enough to be married to me, therefore he has become an active participant in my daydreams. We play this game, ok I play this game and force Caleb to be involved, called "Lets Pretend." It usually consists of me inventing a scenario and planning an intervention. Or better yet I invent the scenario and make Caleb tell me what he would do. It took him a while to warm up to this, because he very often used the response "...but that would never happen," or the typical guy response of "...I don't know.." which is not allowed in my game! However, aside from a few rough patches, he is familiar with the game. An example might be "what if I got sick and died, what would you do?" Another favorite is "what if we won a million dollars, what would we do with it?" This may seem trivial to many of you, but I personally like to be prepared for all situations.
As of late we (whenever I say "we" I truly mean mostly me and slightly Caleb) have been very interested in real estate and houses. In particular new homes. We have been visiting many model homes and reviewing many floorplans. I find this fascination particularly interesting because we are not necessarily in the market for a new home. I mean we would like a new house, but many factors are preventing us from buying a new house at this time. You would think this would discourage us from being so actively involved in the search for our perfect home, but it doesn't. This new obsession with houses brings Let's Pretend to a new level. As we walk through a model home it instantly becomes Our New Home. Which means that I must decide where all of our furniture goes, what will occupy each bedroom, and what I would immediately change. Lately I have become even more obsessed than normal. We have narrowed down our perfect house search to two models, so we have two homes now. I have now picked out furniture online that I like and designed each room, in both houses. Pretty much aside from Micaela's furniture (which we will re-stain) and my red couches, all the furniture in Our New Home is brand new. I have also began looking at paint samples to pick colors for the rooms. I refuse to consider the idea of white. Just today I was beginning to think I should landscape Our New Home, which unlike interior design, I know nothing about. I am considering picking up a book or two about landscaping at the store. I talk about Our New Home a lot, and Caleb is subtly hinting that I might be overdoing it just a little bit. However, I disagree. When our "factors" work themselves out, which they will, we will be in the market. And I will be ready.

I would like to dedicate this picture to Meagan, as we all know she is a huge Sanjaya fan!

Don't worry, I did not let Micaela wear this hairstyle in public.

I hate daylight savings time (in the spring of course.) I hate waking up earlier, changing the 20 clocks around the house, and having one less hour on my new day off. My whole day would be ruined if it weren't for my loving friend who delivered my highly anticipated girl scout cookies.

About 11:00 last night, Caleb and I had just finished watching "V for Vendetta" (Good, by the way,) I was walking around our room in the dark. All of a sudden I felt the most horrible pain in my foot and I screamed. There was something in my foot. Caleb came running upstairs, turned on the light, and we could see that the hook on his belt buckle was all the way stuck in my foot. Caleb was more freaked out than I was, trying to find something we could put on it to numb the pain, as we had to pull it out. Finally he grabbed me a washcloth that I could bite down on, and I pulled it out. I immediately felt much better when it was out. The bleeding wasn't too bad, but Caleb called the hospital, who "couldn't dispense medical information over the phone," so I called my dad, because at one time, probably when he was about my age, he was thinking about becoming a doctor instead of a lawyer, so he can obviously give medical advice. He gave me some useful tips and told me what to expect, and the best part about this is...I don't have to go to work today! I have never called in to work sick. There have been days I have asked for off for various reasons, but I have never called and said "I can't come in today." I work when I'm sick. Which is kind of sick if you think that I'm serving food while sick, but I just can't call in. It's actually somewhat fortunate. It doesn't hurt too badly right now, and if I don't walk on it I'm fine. So not only do I have an excuse to miss work, I have to sit or lay down all day! I am beside myself. I should stab myself with sharp objects more often.

This hook was in my foot

For those of you who have little ones, you might be able to relate. Micaela has flown quite a lot considering her young age. She went on her first flight illegally...ok well against policy when she was just 12 days old. The first flight we had with her we were so nervous, what if she screams the entire time? Which was highly unlikely because Micaela was a few months old before we even heard her cry more than a whimper, and she never really screamed (as a baby at least.) So plane rides with her were fairly uneventful and we all took advantage of the time and napped.
This all changed when she became mobile. All of a sudden our plane trips became scenes out of horror movies, hence the spin-off title "snakes on a plane," get it? And no I did not see that movie but it looked scary and stupid, which is how I feel flying with a toddler. She obviously does not understand that we are not allowed to move around a plane, and she takes every opportunity to try climbing over the seats, into the aisles, under the seats, and around the seats in the small crack between the window and seats. She has also, no joke, stolen other people's peanuts...including her parents, who love their peanuts. It really is my worst nightmare to be in a cramped, stuffy area with a toddler, who wants more than anything to run wild and free down the aisle and steal peanuts and half glasses of coke (because they can't just give you a full can)from all the passengers. Needless to say this is a very anxiety-provoking situation.
However, this horror movie has a happy ending...Dramamine. I was unfamiliar with this motion-sickness medication, but one of my many child wise friends recommended it to me. I was hesitant, but her doctor said sure, and we tried it. Back again are our plane rides full of naps, where I can eat my own peanuts, and we leave the plane refreshed. The only difficulty is getting Micaela to take the pill, which we discovered works best when mixed with a crunchy snack, such as a granola bar.
To think, if this were my advice in all situations, to medicate, I wouldn't have a career....
